I finally stopped using a 10mm joint for everything after a job in Savannah

For a decade, I'd just default to a 10mm joint on every single wall, thinking it was the standard and anything else was just extra work. Then I got a job restoring a historic row house in Savannah, and the architect's spec called for a 5mm joint to match the original 19th century brickwork. I fought it at first, but seeing the finished section next to the old wall was a real eye-opener. The tighter joint looked so much cleaner and really let the brick pattern shine. Now I actually look at the brick size and the project's style before I even mix my mud. Has anyone else had a project that made them question a basic habit like that?

Ever try a 3mm joint? Did a modern build with huge bricks and it looked insane.

That sounds like a pain to lay, honestly.

Actually, 3mm is for tile, not brick.
