Used to hate ferns till I saw one in Olympic National Park

For years I thought ferns were boring filler plants. Last month I hiked the Hoh Rainforest trail and saw a 12-foot sword fern growing out of a nurse log. The way the light hit all those fronds completely flipped my opinion. Has anyone else had a plant they wrote off until seeing it in the wild?

I get what you're saying but respectfully ferns just still look like overgrown broccoli to me no matter where they grow.

Has your friend ever had a random plant moment like that? My buddy Alex used to make fun of succulents until he saw these massive agave plants growing wild in Arizona, said they looked like something from another planet. Now he's got like fifteen of them crammed onto his fire escape.
