Rant: I drowned my orchid for 6 months before realizing the pot was the problem
I kept watering my orchid every week like the tag said, but the leaves turned yellow and mushy. One day I took it out to repot and saw the inner plastic pot had no drainage holes, so all that water was just sitting there. Anyone else find out their favorite plant was wilting from too much love instead of too little?

My sister nearly killed a jade plant the exact same way last spring, she had it in this cute ceramic pot with no drainage and was watering it every Sunday like clockwork. The leaves started dropping off one by one and she thought it was just being dramatic about the season change. It took her three months to realize the bottom half of the soil was basically a swamp and the roots had turned to brown mush. I really do feel your pain because it's such a rotten feeling when you find out you've been drowning something you were trying so hard to help. Sometimes those little clear plastic pots with holes in the bottom really are the best bet even if they look ugly.

You said "too much love instead of too little" and that's the part that gets me. How do you figure out the line between giving a plant what it needs and just smothering it to death? Did you ever notice any signs early on that made you second guess the watering schedule, or was it all clear only after you saw that pot?
