I used to think buying rare specimen plants was the only way to have a cool collection
Three years ago I spent $85 on a tiny Monstera albo cutting and watched it rot in two weeks. Meanwhile my neighbor gave me a cutting of her basic pothos that's now trailing 6 feet across my living room. I changed my mindset after I saw how resilient common plants can be when you just let them do their thing. Still love the rare stuff but now I trade cuttings with friends instead of dropping cash on Instagram sellers. Anyone else find more joy in the everyday plants they grew from a single leaf?

Ah, I still get more joy from hunting down the rare ones myself.

@jesseb20 I get what you're saying man, but I honestly see it different now. I used to chase the rare ones hard too, spent $60 on a variegated Philodendron cutting that died in a week. But you know what brings me more joy these days? The cuttings my buddy gave me from his grandmother's spider plant that's been alive since the 80s. That plant has more history and character than anything I've bought online. There's something special about watching a common plant thrive with almost zero effort compared to the fussy rare stuff.
