Why does my book press keep tipping over on carpet?
I've been fighting my press for a week now, it kept wobbling on my living room floor in Portland. Tried a scrap plywood base under it, leveled everything out, and now it stays solid even when I crank down hard on a 400 page text block. Anyone else run into this on softer floors, or is my press just too small for the job?

Plywood base was the game changer for me too, but I had to double it up and glue it. My press kept walking on the carpet even after leveling, so I cut two 3/4 inch boards, stacked them cross-grain, and screwed them together. That extra weight and rigidity did the trick, plus I put those little rubber furniture pads under the corners so it grips the carpet instead of sliding. Now I can torque down without the whole thing doing the cha-cha. Also, check if your press feet are actually flat, mine had a slight wobble in the casting itself that the plywood fixed without me even realizing it.
