Rant: Bought a 'professional' bone folder that was a total waste

I saw this fancy looking bone folder online for $35, the listing said it was for 'serious bookbinders'. It arrived and the edge was so blunt it couldn't crease a simple fold in text weight paper. I tried using it on a new leather cover project and it just slid around without making a mark. Ended up having to redo the whole cover with my old, cheap one. Has anyone found a brand that actually holds a sharp edge?

That "serious bookbinders" line gets me. I had a similar letdown with a fancy kitchen knife that was sold as a pro tool. The edge rolled over just cutting herbs, and my old cheap one still works fine. Sometimes the marketing is just louder than the actual quality.

Ever buy a "pro" backpack that fell apart?

Yeah, that "marketing is louder" idea is a common take, but I don't see it that way. Your knife experience sounds frustrating, but one bad product doesn't mean all pro claims are empty. Sometimes you just get a lemon, or the tool needs a different kind of care. I've had the opposite happen, where a cheap thing failed fast and the "serious" version lasted years. It's not always just noise.
