Stop grinding your tungsten to a needle point, trust me

I spent 4 years in the trade sharpening tungsten like everyone said, super fine point. Then I switched to a blunt flat tip for a big stainless job we had in Tulsa last month. Way better arc starts, no wandering, and the tungsten lasted twice as long before I had to regrind. My foreman thought I was crazy until he tried it on his own rig. Anyone else run a flat grind or am I the only one ditching the needle?

Hold on before you ditch the needle completely, I've run both and the point still wins for me on thin material every time. A flat tip gives you way less control in tight spots and it can blow through a root pass if you're not careful. Maybe it works for heavy stainless, but I'll take the wander over a burned out weld any day.
