I ran 14 test coupons last week after doing it his way and only had to grind out 2, so now I'm wondering if anyone else preheats overnight or just runs it a couple hours before a shift.
Man, hate to break it to you but overnight preheat on 6010 is not doing what you think it is. 6010 is a cellulosic rod that actually wants some moisture in the coating to run right, so drying it out hot for hours usually makes it run rougher, not cleaner. What probably helped was keeping the rods at a steady temp so they feed the same every time, not the long soak itself.
