Went to a board game cafe in Denver last weekend and left annoyed
I was at this spot called The Tabletop Tap in Denver and every single game on their shelves was like a $80 Kickstarter exclusive with minis. The guy at the counter told me their whole collection is curated to "avoid basic stuff" like Catan or Ticket to Ride. Am I the only one who thinks board game cafes should have a mix of new stuff and the classics people actually know how to play?

Walked into a similar spot in Portland called Meeple Mountain last year and had the exact same feeling. They bragged that their "curated" collection had zero copies of Carcassonne or Settlers because those were "too mainstream." So I sat down with two friends who have never played anything more complex than Uno. Took us 45 minutes just to figure out the rules for one of their obscure worker placement games. Ended up playing the same game three times because nobody wanted to learn another rulebook. I get wanting to support indie designers but most people just want to play something they already know how to teach.
