I just realized I've been teaching my friends the rules to Catan wrong for like 3 years, and my buddy's girlfriend finally called me out on it.

She pointed to the rulebook and said 'it says right here you get a resource for EACH settlement on a hex, not just one total,' and my whole game group just stared at me.

Honestly, that rule is why the starting placements matter so much. If you only got one resource total per number roll, the game would move way too slow. Her reading it straight from the book is pretty brutal though, gotta hand it to her.

You're right about that, @noahs82. I once played a whole game like that because I misread the rules, and it was the longest night of my life. We were all starving for bricks by the third hour, lmao. Never felt so dumb reading a rulebook out loud after that.
