Debate: Is getting wrecked in a board game actually fun or just frustrating?

Last month I played Dune Imperium and got absolutely crushed by turn 3 because I misread a card. Some people say losing hard teaches you more than winning. What do you think? Is it a good week or a bad week when you bomb out like that?

My third game of Dune Imperium I tried a "sneaky" Ixian strategy and basically handed my opponent the win by turn 4 because I forgot combat was a thing you have to do. Getting wrecked like that is like stepping on a rake in a cartoon its hilarious for everyone else watching but you're just sitting there thinking "well that was a waste of my precious free time." Sure they say losing teaches you more but honestly it mostly teaches you that you should have read the rulebook more carefully before pretending you knew what you were doing. Its a good week if you can laugh about it later over drinks but a bad week if you were banking on that win to salvage your already terrible day.
