When my old anvil let go in the middle of a Monday rush

I was at my shop in Wichita, three years back, and the face plate chipped clean off my great-granddad's anvil on a heavy drift punch, so I had to stop, rig a jig with a spare plate and two clamps, and finish the order by Friday, but now I'm wondering if anyone else has rebuilt a worn anvil face instead of buying new?
