Vent: My new propane forge flared up during a commission for a local restaurant's sign bracket.

I was in my shop in Boise working on a 3/8 inch mild steel bracket when the burner coughed and sent a foot-long jet of flame out the front, which I managed by shutting off the tank valve and letting everything cool before checking all the fittings with soapy water, finding a loose connection at the regulator. Has anyone else had a similar scare with a new forge setup?

Did a buddy of mine have that happen? His new forge backfired once and singed his shop towel. Turned out his air mix was way off.

Yeah, that air mix thing @west.alice mentioned is huge. My first forge would pop and sputter until I spent a whole afternoon tweaking the choke and gas pressure. Found a sweet spot where the flame is a steady roar, no more nasty surprises.
