My old shop teacher watched me burn a scroll and said something I keep thinking about
I ran into my old shop teacher Dave at a hardware store in Akron last month and he asked what I was working on. I told him I was trying to forge a decorative scroll for a gate and kept scrapping them, probably 6 or 7 in a row. He laughed and said his first instructor made him do 100 of the same scroll before he was allowed to touch anything else. That hit me because I've been jumping between projects, tongs, bottle openers, a knife, without ever really nailing one thing. So I stopped everything else and started doing 5 scrolls a day. Two weeks in, the last 10 have all been keepers and my hammer control feels way better. Anyone else get stuck hopping around instead of grinding on one skill long enough to actually own it?
