Broke my favorite hammer, fixed it with an old leaf spring

Dropped my go-to cross peen on the shop floor last Tuesday. Handle split right at the head, total loss. I was about to order a new one but a buddy said try the leaf spring off an old truck he had. Heated it, shaped it, and forged a new head in about 3 hours. Thing hits harder than the cast one ever did. Anyone else salvage car parts for tool steel or am I the only one digging through junkyards now?
