Unpopular opinion: I actually prefer my old Park Tool stand over the newer one

Honestly, I used a cheap clamp-on stand from the 90s for like 8 years before switching to a Park Tool PCS-10 last winter. Everyone raves about the newer models with the quick-release lever, but I find my old one way more stable. Yeah, it takes an extra 30 seconds to adjust the height with the twist knob, but I never have it slip on me mid-repair. Has anyone else found that older bike stands feel more solid than the modern ones?

Man, I totally get where you're coming from. There's something about the old school twist knob that just feels bulletproof compared to the fancy quick release stuff. I've had brand new stands at co-op shops that wobble like crazy on big frames, but my buddy's beat up 90s stand holds a full suspension bike rock solid. The extra few turns to adjust height is nothing when you don't have to worry about the whole thing dropping your ride mid chain swap. It's like the older stuff was built to survive a shop environment, not just look good in a garage.

Disagree, those newer quick releases lock down way better once you get the tension right.
