Just realized a customer's 'slight wobble' was a cracked fork steerer
A guy came into the shop last week saying his front end felt 'a little off' on descents. When I pulled the fork, I found a hairline crack all the way around the steerer tube under the crown race. He said he'd been riding it like that for a month. Anyone else had a close call where the customer's description was way too casual for the actual problem?

Jesus, a month on a cracked steerer? That's not a "slight wobble," that's a Darwin Award nomination. @piper175 you're right to shudder, that's basically riding a ticking time bomb between your legs. Had a guy once tell me his headset was "a little crunchy" and the bearings had turned into gravel dust. People just hear a weird noise and assume it'll sort itself out.

My buddy had a customer come in complaining of a "ticking noise" from the rear wheel. Turns out three spokes were completely snapped and the rim had a huge flat spot. The guy had been commuting on it for two weeks like that, just thought it was a loose brake pad or something.
