I finally followed that advice about greasing pedal threads, saved me a headache.

Old timer at the co-op in Portland told me to always grease pedal threads even if they say self-tightening. I blew him off for like a year. Then last week I swapped pedals on my commuter and one seized up so bad I had to use a breaker bar and nearly stripped the crank arm. He was right. Now I grease everything. Anybody else learn a simple tip the hard way like that?

Oh man, yeah I heard something about using a dab of anti-seize instead of grease on pedal threads. Seems like either way just putting something on there is the trick.

My grandfather was a mechanic for 40 years and he would have lost his mind if he saw me putting anti-seize on pedal threads... that stuff is basically liquid sandpaper once it dries out and hardens. Grease is way more forgiving and actually stays slippery for years. I used anti-seize on my mountain bike pedals once back in 2018 and six months later I couldn't get the damn things off without a breaker bar and some colorful language. Had to take the whole crank arm to a shop and they charged me 30 bucks just to torch the thing loose. Never again.
