Finally gave in and bought a torque wrench for carbon parts
I used to just go by feel with an Allen key, but after a customer brought in a cracked seatpost clamp, I got a basic 5 Nm model. The peace of mind is worth every penny, and I haven't had a single issue since. Anyone else have a tool they resisted that turned out to be a game changer?

Consider how many people skip the torque wrench but also ignore the grease. Saw a stem creak itself loose on a brand new bike because some genius put carbon paste on the bolts instead of grease. The_mason is right about the nightmare, but it's not just about the right tool, it's using it with the right stuff. A dry bolt at 5 Nm can feel way different than a greased one, and that false sense of security is how things get wrecked.

Took you that long, huh? I think my old mechanic used to call that "the grunt and guess" method. Honestly, seeing a cracked carbon part is the kind of nightmare that makes you stop trusting your own hands. Good on you for getting the right tool before something expensive went snap.
