Cheap spoke wrench rounded a nipple in 30 seconds flat

Picked up a $4 spoke wrench from a random bin at a swap meet in Denver, tried to true a wheel and it slipped twice, chewed the nipple corners right off. The tolerance was way off, that's the thing. Ordered a Park Tool SW-7C after that mess, but has anyone had luck with any budget brands that actually grip?
