Warning: that $90 gooseneck kettle saved my pour overs, or did I just waste 90 bucks?
Spent $90 on a temp control gooseneck after my $20 kettle kept dumping water everywhere, and my pour overs got way better instantly. But my buddy says a cheap kettle with a steady hand works the same and he's been making coffee for 10 years at his place in Austin. So is the gooseneck actually worth it or did I just buy my way out of learning how to pour?
That line about "buying your way out of learning how to pour" is exactly what I used to say, I was all smug about my steady hand and cheap kettle. Then I actually tried a gooseneck and realized the spout does half the work, flow rate control is a real thing you can't fake with wrist strength. Your buddy's not wrong that it's possible, but there's no medal for doing it the hard way.
