Guy at my local roaster said my $20 drip machine was fine and I don't know what to believe now
I was picking up a bag of beans at this place in Sacramento and the guy behind the counter asked what I brew with. I told him it was just a cheap drip machine I got at Target and he said honestly, if you like how it tastes, don't let anyone talk you into a $200 setup. That kind of stuck with me since I had been eyeing a pour over kit for months. I have tried a french press at a friend's house and the cleanup alone made me never want one. Part of me thinks he was just being nice but another part thinks maybe I have been overthinking this whole thing. What gear actually made a real difference for you, or is it mostly just about the beans?

Sounds like your water might matter more than the machine, since most people never try fixing that part.
