Switched my 800 follower Instagram account from 11 hashtags to 3 and reach jumped 40 percent
Two weeks ago I was tagging every post with 11 hashtags trying to hit every niche and my reach kept sliding, so I cut it down to 3 that actually match what I post about. Same content, same posting time, but reach on my last 5 posts is up around 40 percent and 2 of them hit the explore page for the first time since summer. Is anyone else finding fewer hashtags works better, or did I just get lucky with the timing?
Did you change which 3 tags you were using or just cut the total number down? I ran into something similar last year with my food page (around 2k followers at the time) when I was stuffing like 15 tags on every post and my reach was flat for months. I dropped down to 4 or 5 that were super specific to what I was actually posting and my reach went up within a week or two. My guess is the app was getting confused about who to show my stuff to when I was tagging a bunch of random stuff that did not match the photo. Fewer tags that actually fit seem to tell it exactly who wants to see it. Curious if you noticed the explore page hits came from the same tags or different ones each time.
