Rant: my 6am posting schedule was killing my reach for 8 months
I always thought posting at 6am meant I'd beat the rush and get seen by the morning scrollers. Then last Tuesday I checked my analytics for a whole month and saw my 6am posts were getting HALF the views of my noon posts. What tipped me off was a random comment from a follower in Texas saying they never see my stuff until lunch break. I finally looked at my audience insights and realized 70% of my people are in the Eastern and Central time zones, so 6am was hitting them at 5am or 4am. Now I moved everything to 10:30am local and my last three posts doubled their reach without me buying anything. Has anyone else had a moment where a single look at the numbers made you feel dumb for months of routine? What time zone messed you up for too long?
...and honestly that reminds me of the time I ran a little recipe blog back in 2018. I was posting every single day at like 7pm because that's when I got off my shift and had coffee. Turns out my actual readers were mostly stay at home parents who scrolled at 10am during nap time. I went almost a full year wondering why my chili recipe got zero love while my neighbor's banana bread post from a random Tuesday morning blew up. When I finally switched to posting after breakfast, my views tripled but by then I was so burned out I just stopped blogging altogether. Timing can make you feel real silly but at least you caught it before quitting, right?
