Back in 2015 I commented on 40 big accounts a day to grow, now I just reply to 3 small ones in my niche

In 2015 I would park myself at my laptop in Sacramento for two hours every night and fire off generic stuff like "great post!" on accounts with 100k followers, hoping some of their audience would click my name. That got me maybe 20 followers a week and a ton of nothing. Now I pick 3 accounts that are around my size with real comment sections and write something actual, like a follow up question or my own result from trying what they posted. Three real replies get me further than 40 throwaway ones and it takes 15 minutes. Anyone else notice small accounts reply back way more than the big ones?
