That time a guy at the recycling center tried to fight me over a CRT monitor

I was dropping off old boxes at the dump in Akron last month and saw a pristine 2003 Sony Trinitron sitting by the e-waste bin. Some guy in a truck yells "hey that still works!" and tried to grab it before I could. We stood there arguing for 5 minutes until a worker told us both to leave. Has anyone else had people get weirdly territorial about old tech at recycling spots?

some guy in a truck yells hey that still works" - yeah because nothing says "calm and normal" like almost throwing hands over a 20 year old monitor at a dump. I swear, CRT people are like a whole different breed. I saw two dudes at a recycling event in Pittsburgh almost come to blows over a Dell tower from 2004. One guy was literally trying to shove it in his trunk while the other was yelling about "gold pins" or something. Did you at least check if the Trinitron had the good aperture grille before he showed up?

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at CRT people too but after seeing how hard that guy was fighting for that Trinitron I kinda get it now. Like maybe there's something to this old tech thing that I was missing.
