That day last week where everything went wrong with a straight razor

Dropped my favorite Dovo straight on the tile floor around noon and chipped the tip. Had to finish a full head shave with a backup that just didn't feel the same. Anyone else have a tool failure that completely ruined their rhythm for the rest of the day?

Happened to me with a vintage Wade and Butcher last spring. Did you try using a ceramic rod to carefully take the chip out of the edge? I know it's nerve wracking but I managed to reshape the tip enough to finish the shave without butchering myself. The key for me was going slow and not trying to fix everything at once. Took like ten minutes of light work on the rod before it felt safe again. Definitely had to throw in extra strop passes after that.

Man, did you try talking to it and giving it a little pep talk before going back in? I once dropped my granddad's old straight on the bathroom sink and it took a chunk right out of the heel, so I just sat there staring at it for a good five minutes like it personally offended me. Tried to finish the shave with a safety razor I keep for travel and ended up nicking myself three times because my hand kept reaching for the straight. By the end I looked like I lost a fight with a weed whacker.
