Shoutout to the barber in Austin who showed me his neckline trick with the clipper comb

After a brutal Tuesday with three rushed fades that just didn't sit right, I tried his method of holding the comb flat against the neck and got a perfectly straight line every single time for the rest of the week, so does anyone have a different technique for cleaning up those back lines?

Yo, what about using a piece of tape? My buddy's shop had a new guy who was struggling hard with his necklines, always a little wobbly. One of the older barbers just slapped a single strip of painter's tape straight across the back as a guide. The new guy shaved up to it, peeled it off, and boom, a crisp line. He did that for a week straight until his hand got steady.

Tape is a solid trick for building muscle memory. I used a similar method when I was first learning to fade. A thin strip of masking tape right at the guideline gave me a clear visual edge to work up to. It took the guesswork out and let me focus on my blade control. After a few days, my hands learned the motion and I didn't need the crutch anymore. It's all about training your eye and your steady hand.

The tape trick @spencer_ross mentioned is great for learning. In my experience, just using the corner of my clipper blade without a guard gives me more control for that final clean-up pass.
