Caught a barber in Portland doing something wild with a straight razor
Last Tuesday I was in Portland visiting my cousin and stopped into this tiny shop off Burnside. The guy was using a straight razor on a client's neck but he had it tilted way flatter than I ever do, almost parallel to the skin. He told me it gives a smoother pass and less irritation on coarse hair, and he's been doing it for 12 years without a nick. I tried it on my next three clients back home and honestly the finish feels cleaner, but I'm still nervous on the jawline. Has anyone else messed with their blade angle like that or is this just a West Coast thing?

Flat as almost parallel to the skin? That sounds like a razor burn waiting to happen.
I've seen guys try that on necks and they always end up with weepers or worse.
Jawline especially, that's a no from me. I'd need way more proof before I trust that angle.
