Shoutout to the time I stopped overwatering my balcony herbs

Honestly I used to water my basil and mint every single morning like clockwork. Tbh I thought they needed constant moisture cause the pots are small and dry out fast. Then last June after I killed my third cilantro plant in a row I figured out the problem. I started sticking my finger an inch into the soil before watering and only did it when it felt dry. Now my rosemary and thyme are actually thriving and I water like twice a week max. Has anyone else had that moment where they realized less water was the answer?

Man, I don't know about all that. My mint is a straight up thug, it grows in a damp corner of my patio where water just sits sometimes and it's still taking over everything. I feel like mint specifically just wants to survive no matter what you do. But fair point on the finger test thing, I guess that makes more sense than just guessing. Still though, twice a week sounds like a lot for rosemary, that stuff likes it dry and rocky almost.

Watering twice a week? My mint would be dead in three days if I did that.
