My basil in Chicago got wrecked by a tiny green bug invasion last month

Turns out they were aphids and they spread to my peppers before I noticed. What's the best way to spot them early on a small balcony?

My basil in Brooklyn got hit by those same tiny green guys last summer. I started checking the undersides of new leaves every other day, that's their favorite hiding spot. A magnifying glass app on my phone actually helped spot the first few before it got bad. Sticky yellow traps near the pots caught the flying ones early too.
