Appreciation post: my stubborn refusal to prune my balcony tomatoes

I never cut a single sucker off my 'Sun Gold' plants this season, thinking it would hurt the yield. Instead, the vines went wild and I'm picking over a pint of cherries every other day from just two pots. Has anyone else had a plant do better with a hands-off approach?

But pruning always gives me bigger, better tomatoes, doesn't it?

I read somewhere that pruning is mostly for size control, not yield.
