Webb.val saying "cooking desperation" made me laugh, but I see it differently. Some of those old Pillsbury recipes were pretty creative with what they had. The soup in the pie was probably a cream of mushroom or celery, which gives you a quick savory sauce without making a roux from scratch. I bet that pie turned out rich and satisfying, like a chicken pot pie but with a shortcut that actually makes sense for a busy weeknight.

Winning pie used canned soup" - I had to read that twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I mean, I've seen some weird bake-off entries before but soup in a pie? That's a whole new level of cooking desperation right there.
