People keep saying their sourdough starter is dead after one quiet day

I see this all the time on baking groups. Someone posts a panicked picture because their starter didn't double in 12 hours after feeding. A starter isn't a machine, it's a living thing affected by kitchen temperature and flour type. Mine took 18 hours to peak last week because my house was cool. Just give it more time and a couple more feeds before you toss it. How many of you have actually 'killed' a starter versus just needing patience?

I've never actually killed one, just had to wait it out a few times lol.

Wait it out? That's the worst part, @lopez.holly. You're just stuck there hoping it goes away on its own. I'd rather just get it over with.

Right? I left mine for a full day once and thought it was done for. It just needed a warm spot and another feeding, like @angela_coleman said. People are way too quick to give up.
