Appreciation post: my 1998 Gateway box still boots faster than my 2019 laptop
Pulled my old Gateway desktop out of my parents' garage in Dayton last month, fired it up, and it hit the desktop screen in about 12 seconds. My 2019 laptop takes almost two minutes just to show me a login box now, and the old machine has 32MB of RAM versus 16GB. Anyone else ever feel like the old stuff aged better than the new stuff?
Those old Windows 98 machines were built to do one thing and did it fast. New laptops are drowning in background junk that runs before you even log in. My old rig still beats my work laptop to the desktop any day.
