Spent 4 hours trying to fix my monitor flicker, it was just a loose DisplayPort cable

I was sure my GPU was dying or I had some driver issue, so I reinstalled everything twice. Turns out the cable wasn't fully seated on the back of the monitor, took maybe 3 seconds to push it in. Has anyone else chased a hardware problem for way too long only to find it was something this dumb?

My buddy Mark had a similar thing with his car last year. Spent like three weekends chasing a weird engine knock, bought a stethoscope and everything, even took the timing cover off. Turns out it was just a loose heat shield on the exhaust manifold rattling against the frame. It's funny how our brains always jump to the scariest, most expensive fix first instead of the simple stuff... maybe it's just human nature to assume the worst. I think that's true for a lot of things in life, not just tech. You're convinced your relationship is falling apart but it's just you being hangry, or you think you've got a health problem but it's just allergies. We overcomplicate everything because the simple answer feels like it can't be the real problem.

Did you read that study about how our brains actually process simple and complex threats differently, @sean_foster52?
