Rant: a guy in a Discord server said my thumbnails looked like 'a ransom note' and he was not wrong
I've been making YouTube thumbnails for my retro gaming channel for about a year and honestly I was just slapping 4 different fonts on every image because I thought it looked busy and fun. Someone in a 200 person server finally told me it looked like a ransom note, and after being annoyed for a day I actually cut it down to 2 fonts max and stopped using red text on dark backgrounds. My last 6 videos got about twice the clicks of the ones before, which is small but it felt good. Anyone else get roasted into better design choices like this?
Man, I gotta push back here because that ransom note look might not be the problem at all. Busy thumbnails are kinda the whole point on YouTube, the loud messy ones are what stop people from scrolling past in the first place. Your click bump could just be from the algorithm warming up to your channel or your titles getting better, not the font cleanup.
