My old soldering iron finally died mid-repair on a vintage amp in Austin

Wait, eight years on the same iron? That's wild. Mine barely make it two before the tips start going soft or the heating element gives out.

Vintage amp repair is serious business though, you gotta have a reliable iron that heats evenly. My Weller WES51 has been going strong for like 8 years now, never let me down even when I was desoldering old caps on a Fender Champ. Those cheap $20 pens are just asking for trouble on something as finicky as a vintage circuit.
