Hot take: Discord killed the magic of game forums

I used to browse dedicated game forums for a specific MMO around 2018 and there were these huge threads with years of strategy, lore debates, and even fan art. Now every community is scattered across a dozen Discord servers where the same questions get asked every day and good info just disappears into the scroll. Does anyone else miss when game communities actually archived their knowledge instead of drowning it in reaction emojis and memes?

Oh man, doesn't it just feel like we lost something real when forums died? I feel you so hard on this. It's like all those years of shared knowledge just vanished into thin air. On a forum you could search a thread from 2015 and find exactly the build guide you needed, but on Discord you're lucky if someone answers the same question for the tenth time that week. The reaction emojis thing is so true too, it's like people just react instead of actually discussing or helping. I really miss the sense of a permanent record where everyone could build on each other's work over months and years.

Eh, I dunno. Forums had their own problems too, like getting buried under spam or having mods who never updated the stickies.
