Chose digital art over traditional painting for my portfolio - big mistake

I had to pick between spending $300 on a drawing tablet or getting nice watercolors for a client project last month. I went with the tablet since it seemed faster and more modern. But after 4 days of fighting with layers and brush settings, I missed my deadline by 2 whole days. The digital work looked flat and generic compared to what I could do with real paint. My client actually said they preferred my older hand-painted stuff. Has anyone else ditched traditional tools for digital and regretted it right away?

That pressure to pick modern tools over traditional is real... I spent $400 on a tablet last year and my first three projects looked like bad MS Paint knockoffs.

Did you try starting with a simpler program first?
