Appreciation post: sat down and did the math on my roommate's 15 minute showers versus mine
My roommate used to take 15 minute showers twice a day and our water bill hit $140 in July, so I started tracking it after he moved out. Turns out my 5 minute showers cost about $40 a month when I run the numbers, which is a $100 swing just from standing under hot water. Has anyone else actually done the math on a roommate habit and found out it was way worse than they thought?

The $40 vs $140 thing is a bit off though, cause the water bill usually has a base fee and sewer charges baked in that don't change no matter how long you shower. So the real swing from your roommate is more like the hot water part, which is heating the water with gas or electric, not the water itself. At 15 minutes twice a day that's 30 minutes of hot water daily, and that adds up fast on the heating side. Your $100 gap is probably close but some of it is fixed costs you'd pay even taking navy showers.
