TIL the average home has 4.7 miles of cable behind the walls, and now I can't decide if that's a reason to organize mine or a reason to stop caring
Found that stat on a home inspection blog while putting off fixing the rat's nest under my desk, so: is hiding the mess worth the effort when there's miles of it you'll never see?

Forget the walls, the mess under your desk is the only cable you actually have to look at every day. Those 4.7 miles are stapled inside studs and buried in insulation, so they might as well not exist. Your little pile of power strips and charging cords sits right where your feet go, and that tangles into a real problem. Tripping over a loose laptop cord or yanking your monitor plug out mid email is way worse than some hidden wires you will never touch. Why bother cleaning any of it when half the cables in your house are already lost to the drywall?
