PSA: tried a $6 pool noodle on my desk cords and now I feel silly about the $30 raceway kit
I sliced a pool noodle down the middle last weekend and shoved every cord behind my desk into it, the power strip, the monitor cables, the 4 chargers, all of it. Not only did it hide the mess, but when my cat chewed through a lamp cord last month and blew the breaker, I could actually pull one cord out at a time to check it. The $30 plastic raceway kit I bought in January is still in the closet, unopened, because the noodle does the same job for 6 bucks. The one catch is the cord colors show at both ends, so I taped the ends with black electrical tape. Has anyone tried the split loom stuff instead? Wondering if it looks any cleaner than my noodle.
Honestly the pool noodle thing is kind of genius and I get the silly feeling. Spent way more than that on a cable sleeve that just collects dust now. Cat chewing through cords is a real fear too, so being able to pull one out at a time sounds like a win to me. The split loom does look a little nicer since it holds its shape better, but the colors still peek out at the ends just like your noodle. Whatever hides the mess and lets you get to a single cord is worth keeping around.
