Rooster crowing at 4am made my neighbor call the city, now I'm split on soundproofing
Last Tuesday my new rooster started crowing at 4 in the morning, and by 8am my neighbor had filed a noise complaint with the city code office. The officer came out and told me I could either rehome the rooster or build a soundproof coop that meets their 50 decibel limit at the property line. I've been reading about heavy curtains, foam panels, and double walled coops, but some folks say that just traps the heat in summer and makes the birds sick. Now I'm wondering if I should just keep hens only and give up on hatching my own chicks, or if anyone has actually made a quiet coop that works in a hot climate like Texas? What did you do when your rooster noise became a problem?
