My neighbor swore pine shavings would stop the smell in my coop, and now my hens are sneezing
She keeps 6 hens two doors over so I figured she knew her stuff, but 3 weeks after switching from straw my whole flock started sneezing and one has a runny nose. Guess I should have asked why she also runs a fan in her coop before copying her setup, anyone else had pine shavings backfire like this?
Wait, she has the same setup minus the fan and didn't mention it even once? That part is wild to me because airflow is the whole reason her shavings work at all, without it that dust just sits there in the wet air. You probably need to vent that coop better or switch back before the runny nose turns into something worse.
