I thought the garlic in water trick for mites was just an old wives' tale
My barred rock, Mabel, had scaly leg mites pretty bad last month, and I was skeptical about the whole 'crush garlic into their drinking water' thing I read online. I tried it anyway, adding three crushed cloves to their 3-gallon waterer for a week while also cleaning the coop. Her legs look completely normal now, and I haven't seen any mites on the other girls either. Has anyone else had a good result with a home remedy they didn't think would work?

Diatomaceous earth in the nesting boxes cleared up my flock's lice problem fast.

That stuff is amazing. I used it for ants in my kitchen last summer and they were gone in a day. What did you mix it with to put it in the boxes?

You said it cleared up lice fast, that's really good to hear. How long did you leave the diatomaceous earth in the boxes before you saw the lice were gone? I've read it can take a few days to really work. Also, did you have to treat your birds directly with it too, or was just in the nesting area enough?
