Am I the only one who spent 4 days chasing a phantom egg eater?

I kept finding broken shells and missing eggs for nearly a week before I finally caught my own hen red-beaked in the act. Anyone else have a chicken turn on their own eggs out of nowhere?

I used to think "red-beaked in the act" was just a joke, but same thing happened here. I blamed a snake or raccoon for two weeks before I spotted my favorite hen pecking her own eggs like it was nothing. That'll change how you look at your whole flock real quick.

Kind of makes you wonder how many other everyday things we just blame on the wrong person or thing, right? Happens to me with my car all the time. I'll hear a weird noise and immediately blame the tires or the alternator, spending hours and money chasing a phantom problem. Turns out it was just a loose coffee cup in the cupholder the whole time, which is basically the same kind of facepalm moment.
