Wrong trail marker on the John Muir Trail created a risky situation
I followed a WOODEN sign for a 'shortcut' that dumped me into a DENSE thicket. Had to scramble back out as the sun was setting FAST. How do we get these FALSE markers removed before someone gets stuck?

Actually, those official trail markers are almost always metal signs nailed to trees, not wooden ones. Someone might have put up a fake wooden sign as a bad joke. You could report the exact spot to the forest service, since they're the ones who would take it down. What was the nearest landmark to where you saw it?

Why would someone put up a fake sign, @taylorcarr?

Did you get a picture of it, @noahchen? Forest service will want the GPS coordinates if you have them.
