Why does nobody talk about fixing old plane radios for fun?

I got into repairing vintage aircraft radios at home to relax. Some techs say it's outdated, but others find it builds a deeper grasp of signals. Do you think hobby work on old gear helps with daily fixes, or is it just extra time spent?

Love that you're into this! Working with old analog gear definitely builds that core skill of tracing a signal through a whole system. That step by step logic helps with modern repairs way more than just swapping circuit boards. It's a super cool hobby that actually makes you better at the daily stuff.

For real, that deep signal tracing is key. You learn to actually read a schematic and understand why each part is there, not just follow a flow chart. That intuition for how noise gets into a system or where a weak point might be is pure gold for troubleshooting anything electronic now.

Totally underestimated how much it teaches.
