TIL the $9 bondo squeegee beats the $40 static wick tool for sealing connectors
Spent two days last month chasing an intermittent heading flag on a King Air 200 and kept going back to the same pitot-static connector. I had been sealing it with the fancy wick tool my old shop swore by, and it kept leaving pinholes at the base. A guy at the Van Nuys hangar handed me a cheap plastic squeegee and told me to drag the sealant instead of dabbing it. Three flights later, no flag, and I have not touched the wick tool since. Anyone else have a cheap tool that flat out works better than the expensive one?
So the $40 tool was just there to make you feel fancy while you poked holes in perfectly good sealant? Next you'll tell me the snap-on guy is ripping us off.
